Our New Home

We've gotten settled into our first flat in Nepal and just wanted to share some photos to give you an idea of where we're at:

This is the living room. We started looking for a couch when we got here and found that "pre-made" furniture is really expensive. Instead, we had this floor couch made. It's super comfy :)

Our bedroom is a work in progress, but we're getting there! (we do have a bed, it's just on the other side of the room). We also have a guest room if anyone would like to come visit!!!

The bathrooms here are usually one big room with a shower head somewhere. Its a little different but works well. Also, the plumbing system here isn't equipped to handle toilet paper. So, you can toss it, or use what we call the bum gun (the dish sprayer next to the toilet).

One of the major perks to this flat is that it came with an installed hot water geyser (many of our friends have bought their own or just heat water on the stove).

This is the dining room which opens to the living room behind me in this photo (I love the big open space). Again, pre-built tables are very expensive. When our landlord, Dipendra, found out we were looking for a table, he started hunting and took Benj to a place to have this one made for a really great price.

This is the kitchen. Its cute:) The countertops ARE as short as they look, they are a little shorter than hip level. The stovetop is hooked to a propane tank in the cabinet below. We can't drink the tap water here (many locals don't either) so we have a water filter on the right hand side.

Life is different here but as you can see, we ended up finding a really really nice place. It's been a great way to begin the transition into life here :)

Love,

Gwen
